35 Silly Things About Me

I need to shake off the sappy, depressing mush that has invaded this page lately. So, since today is my 35th birthday:

35 SILLY THINGS ABOUT ME

1. My nickname as a toddler was "Crash Pits" because I purposely rammed my walker into everything in sight.

2. Up until a few years ago, I kinda hated St. Patrick's Day, because I felt like it took over the whole month of March, when people should be focusing on my birthday at the beginning of the month. Lately, I have decided to embrace the green within myself.

3. I was so nervous to join Facebook because I imagined that it would be scary to reconnect with people I haven't spoken to in years or decades. Now I am an addict. I can admit this.

4. I hate olives, and anything that olives have touched.

5. I paint my toenails and wear toe rings year round, because my toes make me happy.

6. It is March, and by the end of the month I will most likely have switched to flip flops and open toe shoes (see #5) and won't confine my tooties again until October.

7. I spent the majority of my summer vacations during Junior High and High School with my nose in a book. I have always preferred reading to just about any other pastime.

8. I didn't explore my "wild side" until my twenties. God, I miss those days sometimes!

9. I swear-to-God, I didn't take a sip of alcohol until after my 21st birthday.

10. I don't like to be in a state of altered-consciousness. The very thought of being drunk or high makes me a little sick. That's not to say I'm not up for a little crazy-sh*t stone-cold sober, though.

11. I strongly dislike coconut...but not as much as olives.

12. I have lived in the Greater Binghamton Area all of my life (since before it was the GBA) and honestly, I can't imagine living any where else. That may make me small minded, I don't know, but this is home to me, and say what you want about the Bing, I love it.

13. When I was little, I didn't like peanut butter and jelly. At all. Weird, huh?

14. When I was little, I also didn't like the color pink. At all.

15. I didn't own a cd player until I was in college, but I was the first person I knew with internet access, thanks to my techy dad. (1994 for both)

16. The only honest-to-goodness physical fight I have ever been in involved a bottle of strawberry syrup and shampoo.

17. I'm so picky about music, even I don't know what I like. My ipod is a schizophrenic collection of pop, country, hippie, classics, 80's and 90's.

18. However, as eclectic as it is, my husband can't find one thing he likes on my ipod. Not enough Pink Floyd, I guess.

19. I'm kinda jealous of my daughter. She has an awesome life.

20. I hate snow.

21. It just snowed about 2 feet on my birthday. Phtttttttttttp!

22. My first wedding was in the middle of May. It snowed. That probably should have been taken as an omen.

23. I have two tattoos and I recently realized that I appropriately have a flower on my ankle (ground) and the moon and star on my shoulder (sky). I totally didn't do that on purpose. But I'm glad it's not the other way around!

24. As much as I like to read, I really have no desire to have a Kindle or Nook, etc. There's just something about having the actual book that I can't imagine giving up.

25. Consequently, I have books in every room of my house. Literally.

26. I will probably end up that little old lady with so many books crammed into my house that the fire department has to come in with a crow bar to get me and my cats out.

27. That was a joke. I hope.

28. My favorite time of day is bedtime. Mine.

29. My second favorite time of day is Giuliana's bedtime, when we say her "Thank You Prayer" and pick one or two things from the day that we are thankful for.

30. I'm trying not to repeat my 25 Random Things About Me or my list of 100 Blessings, and this is harder than I thought. Guess I'm not silly enough! Wait...that can't be true.

31. I didn't have my first real kiss until I was 19. I was such a freaking good girl.

32. I'm a bit of a neat freak. I have a reputation for stealing cups and plates to put in the sink before people are done using them, because I can't stand to have them just sitting around. I think the reports of this habit are highly exaggerated.

33. I also pick up my daughter's toys at least 2 or 3 times before bedtime because I can't deal with them all over the floor. But I gotta tell ya, she's learning to pick up her stuff!

34. When I was in high school I had clothes all over my room and kept a collection of shoes under the dining room table. I have no idea how my mother put up with me. I couldn't have put up with me.

35. I make up random little songs for my daughter about everyday things we do. We have a song for brushing her teeth, for getting up in the morning, for eating, etc. I inherited this trait from my mom, who also makes up silly little songs. She and G have a song for school days, for example. I haven't followed in her footsteps and made up a song about changing dirty underwear, though. That's just going too far, mom!

Watch Out for Cammy!

Hey Kami and Cammie! Did you hear this?? Kami-Cammie-Cammy's (et al.) of the world, UNITE! We now have a lake monster among us! How cool is that? I mean, really, how many people get to share their name (a fairly unique name, at that) with a big, scary monster? I, for one, think it's pretty awesome!

Who/What do you share your name with?

Love::New Crayons

I poured the new box into the tin holding all the old, broken, well-loved crayons before she got home. I waited excitedly as she made her way over to the table, as she does everyday. Immediately the chubby little fists grabbed the sleek, clean sticks and began to create.

"Circle, Mama?" "Smiy!" (smile.) We draw together. I draw random shapes, letters, numbers. She scribbles and colors in the pictures. She helps me name the drawings. "Double," (w), "ney" (9).

"Pu-poh!" She gets that one right. "Boo!" She holds up a green crayon. We'll work on that one.

Oh! The possibilities! Sigh. I heart new crayons.

Was I Bored? Not Anymore...

Ok. I've been trying to come up with something witty and snarky to introduce you to this link. But, really. I think the following picture says it all.

Oh, and this one.

Or maybe this one.

Just go.

A Few More Dresses

I've looked and looked. I think I am falling in love with maxi dresses. What do you think? I also have decided I want a print with color. I think. Here are a few more contenders. I've liked some others but John has rejected them...I suppose I should take his taste into account :) He did pick me!

Help Me Shop. Please!

My sister-in-law is getting married next month and I need a dress. Here's the facts: the wedding is on a Friday evening, outside, semi-dressy, the "theme" she's going with is "Asian-fusion" whatever that means...picture lots of bamboo. I am 5'2", around a size 12-14, depending on the style. I prefer empire waist and flowy around the middle...not clingy. Also important, I will spend a good chunk of the evening running around after one very cute toddler...in the grass. So, do you have any opinions, other suggestions, tips, etc? I have so far scoured Overstock.com and come up with these contenders. I will keep my opinions to myself for now and see what you all say. Thanks in advance for your help!! I need it!

Oh, and this last one is J. Crew. Probably completely out of my preferred price range, but super-cute.

Ahhhh

That's better. A fresh spring pedicure! I went on a date with my friend Kate this afternoon after work for some much needed and deserved girl time. Bliss.

To expand on my Twitter rant...

Work Today = GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
It's Friday, isn't everyone supposed to be nice and cheery on a Friday, even if it is rainy, AGAIN. Today is not a nice and cheery day. And I am not feeling nice and cheery either. So there. Everything is bugging me about work today. People. Paperwork. Phone calls. Bah.

Oh, CVS...you let me down. Big. Time.

Dear CVS:

I was walking around your store earlier today, minding my own business, texting my friend Kate about a pedi date, keeping an eye out for the...ahem, "feminine products" whose need brought me into the store, when suddenly, a vision opened up before me that stopped me dead in my tracks. Thank God I had my phone right there, so I could capture photographic evidence of this previously (assumed to be) "exstinked" item.

Do you see this, CVS? Love's Baby Soft aerosol body spray?!? OMG. And, right next to it? Ex'cla-ma'tion! One shelf down? (I didn't subject my phone GBs to the humilation of being used to capture it in digital glory) Giorgio, and Wind Song. I kid you not. It was right there, on your endcap shelf, next to the chocolate Easter bunnies. For God sake, CVS. Where is your shame?

Who? Who, I ask you, is buying this stuff? Don't today's teenagers have better olfactory sense? (scents?) Pre-teens, hopefully, need parental permission to purchase perfumary, and WHAT mother would allow an 11 year old to buy Sugar Kiss aerosol...cause, you know, you can just hold that spray nozzel down and go to town, offending the allergies of the whole block. Is it 40 year olds stuck in their 1987 18 year old glory? It really is just cruel that you still sell this stuff. I mean, some people need to step away from the ratting comb and the Aquanet, put down the crimping iron, and move on. CVS, you do not need to be enabling these people.

I hope in the future I see some better judgement on your part, CVS. I truly enjoy my Extra Bucks, and would hate to be forced to go to Walgreen's just because you errantly put a Giorgio tester in the hands of a heavy fingered Hannah Montana wanna-be who polluted the whole store.

Thank you.
Sincerely,

Kami

Look, I did.

<---------

I seriously need to get a Twitter account, I could have bored you all day.

One long-ass, boring training

+ flip flop weather

= realization that my life is in need of a pedicure, ASAP.

At least I was able to catch up on my texting. Stay tuned, I have an even longer training all day tomorrow...who knows what I will entice you with!

Ew.

To any male readers out there...turn away. You don't want to know about this, please trust me.

For the ladies (FYI: said in that creepy, faux sexy, bar voice) please check out the post by my friend Cammie over at "Life in the House of No Sleep". Ummm...I am all for being green and environmentally friendly. And I know some of you are way more into that than I. But. Seriously. I have limits.

Discuss amongst yourselves. And don't say I never gave you anything.

Narcissism v. Snoopery

I have been tagged by Kami (haven't you noticed? on my blogroll? there's another Kami! and a Cammie, too!) to do a meme displaying the contents, in all their glory, of my medicine cabinet, or other stashes in my bathroom. Apparently there is an online contest to see who has the most embarrassing/interesting collection of bathroom junk. I feel this may be the absolute height of narcissism and self-absorption, to think that everybody on the internet is interested in my toiletries, but admit it! you are all snoops and you peak in other people's medicine cabinets every chance you get! So, though I don't plan on entering the contest, here are some of the hiding spots and their contents in my loo. Enjoy, don't say I never gave you anything, and for goodness sake, please post YOUR pics so I don't feel so alone!

This here is the main medicine cabinet. Those of you who have been to my house may recognize it's contents (wink, wink). Let's see, we have Care Bear band-aids for G, and regular, non-cartoon band-aids for John and I. There is a cadre of prescription and non heartburn medications from both my pregnancy and John's medical issues. Oh, and G's too, apparently...I spy Mylicon, the baby wonder drug in there too. The nasal strips would be a failed attempt at decreasing snoring in my bedroom...I won't say whose snoring. The contact solution/cases are for my non-existent contacts, the ones I haven't had for 2 1/2 years cause I was pregnant and needed an eye exam and they won't give you one when your preggers, and then for the last year I have been too lazy... Oh, and that paper on the top shelf? That is the instructions for my new, fancy scale. Yes I kept them. The scale does high-tech scientific stuff like calculate your BMI and sh*t. (But ya know, I gotta agree with my SIL, Gina, I remember when BMI came out in the 80's. It was a very complicated process involving water displacement, calipers, possibly even burning a piece of fat over a bunson burner and measuring it's caloric rate...ok, maybe not that, but it was INVOLVED. Now, it is just a simple math equation that my scale can do to make me feel like a jelly donut. You know what? F-you BMI! I don't need your fancy math! So there.)

Moving on. This is the other side of the medicine cabinet proper. It is mostly John's stuff. His hair gel(s), his shaving gel, his razor, his deodorant. The top shelf is my deodorant (hi, Kate!) and my everyday perfume, "Green Tea" by Elizabeth Arden. I have been wearing that for YEARS!

Here we have the weird little niche/closet near the toilet. I don't know what the heck this space is supposed to be. It doesn't have a door, just a horizontal blind (I have been meaning to remedy that ever since we moved in, but...) and it is only a 1/2 closet in length. Very strange. Anyway, it is where we keep towels (which would be on the top shelf if we had any clean ones, which we don't currently) and washcloths, lady things, and such. Prominently displayed is my "monthly" stash (you're welcome). Extra deodorant (you don't want to run out), toothpaste, razor blades, etc are stored here. Hiding in the back, next to the Static Guard and the Febreeze, in the tin container are all my other perfumes that I never wear. We have such classics as Dune, 5th Avenue, Ralph, and some B&BW sprays. I have had all of them forEVER, and they probably don't smell as nice now. Oh, sitting by the lady stash are two bars of homemade soap (the pink things) that I made for my wedding almost 4 years ago. On the next shelf up, we have my obsession with pedicures. The green bag has all my tools, the bin is FILLED with nail polishes and I spy a sea salt rub in there too. The pink tin is also full of pedi supplies. Yet, my feet are dry, cracked and gross. It is a paradox. You might also note some leftover pregnancy supplies up there-cocoa butter and a little bottle of "Mama Massage Oil." Mmm hmm.

This is my stuff by the sink. I use the Aveeno Baby lotion for my face, and I gotta say, it is by far the best stuff I have tried. I have dry, sensitive skin and expensive stuff burns, scented stuff itches, light stuff isn't moisturizing enough...this works sooooo well. The Pantene moisturizer stuff and the Bed Head Super Star! are the extent of my hair products. Not that I don't have more stashed away somewhere, but that is all I currently use. Also not pictured (cause I didn't think of it, not cause I thought you wouldn't care!) is my entire under-the-sink holy grail of make-up items and accessories. Oh, I have so much I could show you. I used to work at a cosmetics counter and I got tons of free/discounted stuff. I will never have to buy eyeshadow again. It makes me sad, really. I LOVE buying new make-up. But is it so hard to justify it. Actually, I went on a fall-cleaning binge a few months ago and threw out BAGS FULL of old hair junk, smelly lotions/sprays that make me itch, etc. Ah, the memories of purging my bathroom junk...it makes me warm and fuzzy all over.

I would like to point out to Kami that I don't have anything even vaguely phallic in my bathroom. (I keep that stuff elsewhere. I'm kidding!! maybe...)

So, what secrets does your bathroom hold? Believe me, there are voyeurs out there (like me) who care.

"This is one time when I'm glad I'm not using a Shamwow!"

This is what my husband just said to me, as he was about to clean fresh cat puke off the carpeted stairs. It cracked me up. I had to share. We enjoy wasting time watching absurd informercials. We actually own a "Magic Bullet" knockoff, the "Rocket!" How could I resist? Make pesto in 3 seconds! Chop up ingredients for your very own homemade quesidilla in 15 seconds! Homemade salsa? 10 seconds flat. Smoothies, grated cheese, omelets, all just a few pulses away! I especially adore the smoking, hungover, be-curlered (yeah, I made that one up) housewife in full makeup and jammies, with the alcoholic attitude. That is how you hawk kitchen appliances, my friends! It is classic. The Shamwow! guy? He has attitude, too. Who knew a dude from Brooklyn would be that into saving paper towels?
But, for cat puke, let me assure you, you want a papertowel.
Happy Saturday.

What a horrible thing

Did you all hear about this? This just absolutely disgusts me, as I'm sure it does all of you. I HATE the consumerism and capitalism that drives people to act insane. Really, is it that important to get the first playstation or dvd or whatever the hell those people were in such a hurry for? My heart just aches for this poor man's family and friends. How horrible. I just do not get our society sometimes.

Baby Caps

Check this out. I'm not a very good sewer...sew-er? I do have a sewing machine and some old tee-shirts, though. I think this is something even I can do. Can you?

Nothing Much

Random observation: I have posted enough to now have an "older posts" link! Cool! I feel more like an official blogger. Yay.
