Home-made Play Dough

This was so easy, so quick, free, and fun. I'm not all that confident in my skills with this type of project. I was sure I would burn it, or it wouldn't be "play-doughy" but it turned out perfect on my first attempt. So, I assure you, you can do it too.

Here's the recipe I used, but there are zillions online if you don't like this one. I plan to experiment with some of the kool-aid recipes for variation...although I just KNOW G will eat it when I'm not looking. Ok...she'll probably eat it while I'm looking, too. She's like that.

1 cup water
1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
2 tsp. cream of tarter
1 tsp. oil
food coloring (I used about 6 drops)

Combine ingredients in a pot. Cook over a low flame for about 3-5 minutes, stirring continuously, until it thickens. Cool. Knead with a little flour so it's not sticky.

Store it in a freezer bag with the air pressed out.

Homemade play dough is the best! I love it when it's fresh and still warm. The kids fight me for it but I figure since I am the one who slaved over a hot stove....

I'm nice like that!

Love this! It was on our agenda for the weekend but we didn't get to it. I'll make sure that we do this weekend - looks like G loved it!

Homemade playdough rocks. It's easy to make and I find it easier to use than the commercial stuff.

And, if they eat it, at least it's not full of crazy chemicals.

It's also great to make it without food colouring, make Christmas ornaments (or whatever) then bake and paint.
